100 percent in agreement, Mr. Coleman. The biggest obstacle to having Trump step aside will be his gargantuan ego. His outsized opinion of himself will keep him from realizing that his endorsements in the general did more harm than good and he’ll find some way to justify his idea that he is the only one that can succeed. He’ll viciously attack DeSantis just as he’s attacked anyone he’s felt threatened by in the past. DeSantis is a far superior politician and his youth and success make him the natural choice, and that will infuriate the thin skinned Trump. I voted for Trump twice, but at this point I think he needs to disappear. Divine intervention in the form of a lightning bolt or a massive coronary may be the only hope.

My thoughts exactly.

Out on the coasts the Evangelical Left/Cluster B Class smears any body who isn’t endorsed by them as Trump or Trump adjacent too. Trump just keeps on feeding that machine.

College educated women view abortion as a sacred right, it doesn't matter how bad crime and inflation get. You cannot reason with a demoralized person.

Totally agree, Adam. I was disappointed this morning because I was hoping for the red wave to set Democrats straight but instead, I think you are right about what this election said about Republicans need to move on from Trump. I respect the former President for standing up to establishment politics and standing up for the middle class and entrepreneurs, but he is divisive which I know some like, but we need his policies without “the baggage” as you stated. Desantis is that for sure, at least as of now.

The good news is that the Republicans should get the majority in the house which will stop the progressive agenda from moving progressing the next two years and they can focus on investigating corruption since they don’t have enough to pass any legislation.

If nothing else it was the American system of checks and balances working and preventing the centralization of power...for the next two years. Now we need more people to wake up and maybe Republicans should rethink Trump loyalty because this election showed, for the most part, that there is a certain part of the electorate who likes the policies but hates the man and will not vote for anything Trump touches ever again.

As has happened on more than one occasion, you found the words I couldn’t; thank you.

Trump was a sui generis event -- a one-off set of circumstances that won't be repeated. It's easy to take the wrong lessons from that experience.

Nobody wanted Trump to win more than me, but this has gotten me to the point where I will vote for whoever runs against him in the primary (knowing they have no chance) and then I'll vote for him in the general as an anti vote against the Dems and Biden.

An extremely well written and intuitive piece. Most if not all of my conservative AND liberal friends, acquaintances, and associates are in total agreement with these thoughts. Trump was and is a divisive personality. I voted for him, as you said in your article, because he was different than all the other "politicians", he wasnt a clinton, and it was against the staus quo of politicians. He brought "business sense" to the running of our county. As a small business owner, that appealed to me. Desantis is the best next choice but if Trump runs again he should just sit it out and wait.

Adam, you reflect my thoughts exactly. Thank you for doing so clearly and persuasively, without snark or rancour. This is how we should talk about politics, instead of ranting. Thanks again.

I get what you’re saying - and I hope for a Desantis run in two years - but for the time being it seems we may continue to have an unopposed political party who is destroying this country day by day - really - as inflation and interest rates rise - as crime increases and deaths due to fentanyl from our southern border increase - as interest on our historic national debt will

Increase in the coming year and we head into a future which is less prosperous, less safe, with less justice and with less stability in the world - i wonder - Trump wasn’t on the ballot yesterday - how bad will things get before people will put the breaks on the Biden administration- I just wish I could understand where people who voted in these democrats yesterday were coming from

Is Trump part of an ingenious scheme to split republicans/conservatives? Haha. The conspiracy theorist in me wonders...

What about a DeSantos/Kemp ticket. Kemps victory was pretty impressive. Although he could over come the spilt ballot voting an pull Walker.

I pray that Trump won't run in 2024. If he does, it will guarantee that we have another four years of Democrat control. They Dems will simply not allow him to win. Knowing this, if he does run, it tells you that he really doesn't care about the people. Rather, it's about his narcissist desire to win.
