Sounds like he's the one who needs "saving".

“My last attempt to save you”? Someone thinks very highly of themselves! Why can’t adults just have an honest difference of opinion without ruining relationships? Insanity.

I'm sorry. This sounds like a painful experience.

It always befuddles me that the group that so looked down on the "religious" have turned into them. These people have "faith." Their "faith" trumps your experience. It's no accident that he used the word "saved."

Had a similar issue with an Australian friend. Ironically, they have now relocated to California, although they hate this country and what it stands for it's not as oppressive as Australia.

This person may have felt who is being kind, but in fact he was being stupid, irrational, and demonstrating himself ias ignorant of the facts as presented to him.

Like most liberals, he is not able to accept a contrary opinion when backed up by proof, in your case lived proof, and change his opinion.

It’s unfortunate, but it is what they are. And they have no clue. Cognitive dissonance is what allows them to behave this way.

This is attitude is the rule, not the exception among younger Europeans. They are taught early they are culturally and intellectually superior to Americans. Yet, when confronted with their own racial-sectarian-linguistic failures, they are silent. For example, the Flemish speaking and French speaking citizens of Belgium are effectively segregated to this day. Don't stroll into a Leuven shoe shop with, "Bonjour!" You will get an icy stare.

This is profound: "Saviorism is a plague in the western world because it places one group over another and the ones below must always wait for the good graces of the people above because they're supposedly incapable."

Kudos! It is good to witness a healthy response of an unhealthy evaluation of life in today's America.

The power of controlled media cannot be overlooked in this equation. Your Dutch friend seems so convinced of the false reality that the MSM has created that when actually faced with the truth--from a real, live, well traveled and educated black man from the US--he couldn't accept it.

It's a shame how humanity has devolved into this.

The Western Left, for all its talk of being "anti-imperialist," has nevertheless taken on the mantle of Rudyard Kipling's white man's burden. The whole "anti-racist" worldview is predicated on the notion that blacks can only find true equality when the "good" whites make it possible for them.

The Left was never truly interested in any kind of cultural revolution - it was merely a palace coup they were after, replacing the old guard with themselves.

He has the zealotry of religious person who does not base his faith on rational thought but on a cult leader like Jim Jones. Crazy ending to a friendship.

It must get tiring always having to save the "oppressed". By the end of the day they must feel totally exhausted by the effort.

Just plain racism under a different guise. Or actually the same one the paternalistic colonialists had. You know, "we're trying to save you because we can't just simply leave you alone. You can't see it for yourself".

"I don't care to wait for the benevolence of white people. I don't need saving."
